{"id":2713,"date":"2025-02-16T21:56:21","date_gmt":"2025-02-16T21:56:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bolas.golf\/?p=2713"},"modified":"2025-10-23T18:48:37","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T18:48:37","slug":"reglas-golf-lo-necesario-en-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bolas.golf\/en\/reglas_del_golf\/reglas-golf-lo-necesario-en-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Rules of Golf: What you need in 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"height:28px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:14px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Warning<\/strong>This article quickly summarizes how to act in the most common situations according to the Rules of Golf, but in no way replaces the book with the original golf rules, which should be consulted at all times and whenever any doubt arises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:13px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of this article, I&#039;ll provide a link to the book in PDF format, along with resources that will specifically help you pass the theoretical test to obtain your handicap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:12px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The good news is that there is only <strong>25 rules<\/strong> of golf (2025).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:9px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Not long ago there were 34 rules, and <strong>the R&amp;A and the USGA<\/strong> (The entities that cooperate globally to establish and update the regulations) made an effort to update and simplify them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>So let&#039;s get down to business. What do I need to have the knowledge to go out into the field?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Preliminary clarification<\/strong>: The content that follows speaks a lot about the action \u00ab<strong>drop<\/strong>\u00ab.\u00bb \u00abDropping\u00bb in golf means to release the ball from knee height so that it falls to the ground and remains in play within a permitted area. It is done when you need <strong>relief<\/strong> from a situation, such as when your ball is in the water, in a hazard, or in an unplayable position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Basically, instead of playing the ball from where it is (because it is impossible or it would take you a lot of strokes to get it out), you can <strong>release it in a better area<\/strong>, but almost always with <strong>one penalty stroke<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Golf Rules: Structure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>So that you can quickly see how the rules are structured and they make sense and have a place in your head (you do NOT have to memorize this section), I will first tell you how they are organized:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the <strong>Rules of Golf<\/strong>, the sections within the 25 main rules are called <strong>\u00abRules Sections\u00bb<\/strong> or simply <strong>\u00absubsections\u00bb<\/strong>, but they are officially structured as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Rules<\/strong>: The top 25 rules (e.g. <strong>Rule 1 \u2013 The game, player conduct and rules<\/strong>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Subrules<\/strong>: They break down each rule into specific situations and scenarios (e.g., <strong>Rule 14.3 \u2013 Dropping Ball in Relief Area<\/strong>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Clauses<\/strong>: Within the subrules, there are subsections identified with letters (for example, <strong>Rule 14.3a \u2013 Original Ball or Another Ball May Be Used<\/strong>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Definitions<\/strong>: Glossary that clarifies key terms used in the rules of golf.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Committee Procedures<\/strong>: Guidelines for tournament officials on the application of the rules.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Model Local Rules of Golf<\/strong>: Optional rules that courses or tournaments may implement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:26px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The rules of golf summarized<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:28px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u26f3 <strong>1. Basic rules<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Play the ball as it is<\/strong> \u2192 You cannot improve your position. <em>(<strong>Rule 9.1<\/strong>: \u00abBall played as it rests\u00bb)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Do not touch the field intentionally<\/strong> to test conditions before playing. <em>(<strong>Rule 8.1a<\/strong>: &quot;Actions that are not permitted&quot;)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hit the ball with a single stroke<\/strong> \u2192 No pushing or double contact. <em>(<strong>Rule 10.1a<\/strong>: &quot;The ball must be struck with the club head and not pushed, scraped or scooped.&quot;)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\udfcc\ufe0f\u200d\u2642\ufe0f <strong>2. How to play a hole correctly<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>You have 3 minutes to find your ball<\/strong> if it is lost. <em>(<strong>Rule 18.2a(1)<\/strong>: \u00abWhen a Ball is Lost or Out of Bounds\u00bb)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>If a ball goes out of bounds<\/strong> or is lost, you must replay the stroke from the original spot with one penalty stroke. <em>(<strong>Rule 18.2b<\/strong>: &quot;What to do when a ball is lost or out of bounds&quot;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>If the ball is unplayable<\/strong>, you can drop with a one-hit penalty. <em>(<strong>Rule 19.2<\/strong>: \u00abOptions for an unplayable ball in the general area or on the green\u00bb<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>If the ball lands in a penalty area (water, hazard, etc.)<\/strong>, you can play it as is or drop it with penalty. <em>(<strong>Rule 17.1d<\/strong>: \u00abOptions for a ball in a penalty area\u00bb)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:29px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udccf <strong>3. How to drop correctly<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You must <strong>release the ball from knee height<\/strong>. <em>(<strong>Rule 14.3b<\/strong>(2): \u00abThe Ball Must Be Dropped Directly from Knee Height Without Touching the Player or Equipment\u00bb)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The ball must fall <strong>within the relief area<\/strong> and stay there. <em>(<strong>Rule 14.3c<\/strong>: &quot;The dropped ball must come to rest in the relief area.&quot;)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the ball rolls outside the permitted area, you repeat the drop without penalty. <em>(<strong>Rule 14.3c(2)<\/strong>: &quot;What to do if the dropped ball moves outside the relief area&quot;)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You have more details on how to know what your relief area is and how to drop in it in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bolas.golf\/en\/reglas_del_golf\/como-saber-donde-dropar-golf\/\">This article<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:34px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2696\ufe0f <strong>4. Common penalties<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Hitting out of bounds or lost ball<\/strong> = 1 penalty stroke and you repeat from the original stroke. <em>(<strong>Rule 18.2b<\/strong>: \u00abWhat to Do When the Ball is Lost or Out of Bounds<\/em>s\u00bb<em>)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Drop incorrectly<\/strong> = 1 penalty stroke. <em>(<strong>Rule 14.7a<\/strong>: \u00abPlace from Where the Ball Must Be Played<\/em>\u00ab<em>)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Playing the wrong ball<\/strong> = 2 penalty strokes. <em>(<strong>Rule 6.3c<\/strong>: \u00abPenalty for playing an incorrect ball\u00bb)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Accidentally moving the ball on the green<\/strong> = There is no penalty, but you must replace it in its place. <em>(<strong>Rule 13.1d<\/strong>: \u00abWhen the Ball or Ball-Marker Moves on the Green\u00bb)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Playing from the wrong place<\/strong> = 2 penalty strokes. <em>(<strong>Rule 14.7<\/strong>: \u00abPlaying from the wrong place\u00bb)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:52px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\udfcc\ufe0f <strong>5. Rules of golf on the green<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Can <strong>repair pinholes and nail marks<\/strong> on the green. <em>(<strong>Rule 13.1<\/strong>: \u00abActions permitted or required on the putting green\u00bb)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is no penalty for <strong>accidentally move the ball<\/strong> on the green. <em>(<strong>Rule 13.1d<\/strong>: \u00abWhen the Ball or Ball-Marker Moves on the Green\u00bb)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If one <strong>moving ball hits another ball<\/strong> at rest on the putting green, the player who made the stroke is not penalized, <strong>but<\/strong> The ball that was at rest must be replaced to its original position before impact. The ball in motion is played as it lies. (<em><strong>Rule 11.1a<\/strong>: \u00abThere is no penalty for any player\u00bb<\/em>)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u26a0\ufe0f <strong>Exception:<\/strong> In stroke play, if the player&#039;s ball in motion strikes a ball at rest on the putting green and both balls were on the putting green before the stroke, the player incurs the general penalty (two strokes).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You must play from where the ball stops, unless you are allowed to drop. <em>(<strong>Rule 9.1<\/strong>: \u00abThe ball must be played as it lies\u00bb)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your ball hits the flag on a putt, <strong>There is no penalty<\/strong>. <em>(<strong>Rule 13.2a(2)<\/strong>: \u00ab<\/em>There is no penalty if the ball hits the flagstick left in the hole.<em>)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:38px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\udfaf <strong>6.
