Grant Thornton Invitational
This co-ed tournament brings together players from the PGA Tour and the LPGA, with women playing from separate tees. Defending champions Jake Knapp and Patty Tavatanakit are both UCLA alumni. Of the 16 PGA Tour players, seven are ranked in the world's top 50, while the LPGA boasts 12 players in the top 50 of the women's rankings.
This year's teams include Florida State alum Lottie Woad and Luke Clanton. Woad won on the Ladies European Tour as an amateur and then on the LPGA Tour after turning professional, currently ranked 11th in the women's rankings. The tournament format includes scramble, foursomes, and modified fourball. Jessica Korda, older sister of Nelly Korda, returns to competition after becoming a mother, while Nelly is playing with Denny McCarthy. Neal Shipley is the only player in the field who will be part of the Korn Ferry Tour graduates on the PGA Tour next year.

This event is the second of three Sunshine Tour tournaments co-sanctioned by the European Tour. The field features four players ranked in the world's top 100, led by South Africa's Thriston Lawrence, ranked 64th. Michael Hollick, also from South Africa, comes into the tournament fresh off a fourth-place finish at the Australian Open, which secured him a spot in next summer's British Open. Three South Africans from the LIV Golf League are participating: Dean Burmester, Branden Grace, and Louis Oosthuizen. Charl Schwartzel, a four-time Dunhill Championship winner, is the only South African on Team Stinger not in the field.
The tournament has been held since 2000 and has been part of the European Tour since its inception. Past champions include Adam Scott, Justin Rose, and Ernie Els. Aldrich Potgieter, who won the Rocket Classic this year, is the leading candidate for PGA Tour Rookie of the Year. Next week: AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.
