The Anecdote of the "Ghost Hole"

It is said that during the construction of the golf course Green Hato (today known as Royal Golf Club of Seville), workers, and some early players claimed to hear strange noises coming from one of the holes near the wooded area. Legend had it that it was the spirit of an ancient shepherd who, centuries before, had guarded those lands (originally part of a pasture).

Over time, the hole in question—the hole 7—earned the nickname "The Ghost Hole", and some pranksters even went so far as to leave "offerings" (such as old balls or even a broken golf club) in his honor before playing, for good luck.

This story is mentioned in the book "History of Golf in Seville" (2005) by Manuel Jesús Fernández Naranjo, which collects oral traditions and anecdotes from the club's early years. It was also discussed in an interview by the club's former president, José María Zamora, in the newspaper ABC of Seville (2012, print edition).
